Company History

  • 1949 Bergstrom Manufacturing Company founded by Adolph Bergstrom
  • 1951 Elvin Rydell joins Bergstrom
  • 1952 Began producing heaters for Carpenter Thomas School Buses
  • 1954 Began producing heaters for Caterpillar
  • 1966 Began producing first Truck heating & air conditioning unit for Kenworth Truck
  • 1971 Moved to present 32 acre Rockford site
  • 1988 Began producing HVAC units for Volvo
  • 1989 Bergstrom, Europe founded in Birmingham, UK
  • 1991 Awarded program to become supplier of choice for International Truck & Engine Corporation™ climate systems.
  • 1993 Supply of HVAC assemblies to New Holland
  • 1994-95 Began focused factory, business units and mastery program
  • 1997 Began assembly of Cabs for Caterpillar
  • 1998 Opened Bergstrom China - (Changzhou) Climate Systems Ltd.
  • 2000 Began production of HVAC for Mack Truck
  • 2000 Acquisition of Kysor-Westran
  • 2003 Acquired Sigma heavy duty HVAC and all electric systems.
